The Unitree R1 is Unitree Robotics' most accessible full humanoid robot — a compact, agile, and highly capable bipedal platform standing 1.21 m tall and weighing approximately 25 kg. Designed for education, research, and developer use, the R1 combines expressive whole-body locomotion with integrated multimodal AI in a lightweight, customisable frame.
The R1 can walk, run, cartwheel, perform handstands, and recover from pushes — all driven by low-inertia permanent magnet synchronous motors across each joint. An integrated Large Multimodal Model (LMM) enables voice recognition, image understanding, and gesture-based interaction without cloud dependency. The fully open SDK and ROS 2 support make it ideal for algorithm development, reinforcement learning research, and AI embodiment work.
Available in two EDU configurations: the U1 (EDU Standard) with 24 DOF and 40 TOPS compute, and the U2 (EDU Smart) with 26 DOF (adds 2-DOF head) and 100 TOPS NVIDIA Jetson Orin for more demanding AI workloads.
